STEPHEN DAVEY SHAMES WORCESTER WITH CHILD PORN OFFENSES
In December 2011, a disturbing case emerged involving Stephen Davey, a 40-year-old resident of Vincent Road, located off Wyld’s Lane in Worcester.Davey faced serious allegations after authorities uncovered a significant collection of indecent images of children stored on his personal devices.
The investigation revealed that he had downloaded more than 800 such images, some depicting children as young as six years old.
These illicit images were acquired over a period stretching from March 30, 2008, to August 20 of the previous year.
The police seized a computer tower and a USB memory stick from Davey’s residence, which contained a total of 827 images.
Specifically, the computer held 303 images classified as level one and two images at level three, while the USB stick contained 517 level one images and five at level two.
The graphic nature of these images has caused widespread concern and condemnation.
During the police raid, prosecutor Matt Dodson recounted that Davey responded dismissively when asked about his devices, stating, “Oh yeah, you want my computer.
It’s upstairs.” Following his arrest, Davey was cautioned and made a chilling remark, saying, “I will be on the sex offenders register.
People will hate me.
My life will be over.” His words reflected a sense of despair and acknowledgment of the gravity of his actions.
Mr.
Dodson further explained that the images depicted young girls aged between six and 14 years old.
When questioned by authorities, Davey admitted to downloading the images in bulk, claiming he would delete the most disturbing ones afterward, describing them as the “most distasteful.” Despite his claims of not being a paedophile or having a sexual interest in children, the evidence and his actions painted a different picture.
In his defense, lawyer David Ollivere described Davey as a man of previously good character who had committed a grave error.
Ollivere emphasized that Davey had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and expressed remorse for his actions.
He acknowledged the shame and embarrassment caused not only to himself but also to those close to him.
Ollivere also highlighted the personal consequences Davey had already faced, including the loss of his partner and his job as a computer programmer, a position he had held for eight years.
Additionally, Davey had been compelled to put his house on the market.
As part of his sentence, he was required to register as a sex offender, a measure that will have lasting implications on his life and reputation.
