STANLEY FORBES, DUNDEE CHILD RAPIST, DIES IN CUSTODY AFTER CONVICTION IN EDINBURGH
In a tragic development, Stanley Forbes, a 61-year-old man from Dundee who was convicted of heinous crimes involving the sexual assault of three teenage girls, has died while in custody. The circumstances surrounding his death are currently under investigation, but authorities have indicated that there are no suspicions of foul play.
Forbes was sentenced to serve an 18-year prison term after being found guilty at the High Court in Edinburgh in October 2002.
His conviction stemmed from a series of disturbing offenses committed between the years 2000 and 2001, during which he exploited vulnerable young girls.
The court heard that Forbes, then aged 44, used manipulative tactics, including offering friendship and cash for drugs, to lure his victims.
The victims included a 13-year-old girl involved in prostitution, as well as two other girls aged 14 and 16.
These assaults took place at various addresses on Clepington Road and Foggylea Gardens in Dundee.
The court was told that Forbes targeted these girls, taking advantage of their youth and circumstances to commit his crimes.
During the trial, Forbes attempted to dismiss the allegations, claiming that the girls—who were strangers to each other—had fabricated the stories out of spite.
He also argued that the 14-year-old girl had a “teenage crush” on him, which led her to repeatedly call him on her mobile phone and allegedly invent the story to get him into trouble when he rejected her advances.
Despite his claims, the jury found him guilty of four charges of rape after a thorough trial.
Following his death, the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) confirmed that an investigation into the circumstances would be conducted.
It is understood that Forbes died in a hospital, and authorities have stated that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his passing.
As is customary in cases of deaths occurring in custody, a fatal accident inquiry will be scheduled, likely to be held at Perth Sheriff Court.
A spokesperson for the SPS stated, “Stanley Forbes, 61, a prisoner at Perth, has died.
He was convicted at the High Court in Edinburgh on October 7, 2002.
Police Scotland has been advised and the matter reported to the procurator fiscal.
A fatal accident inquiry will be held in due course.” The Crown Office also confirmed that an investigation into Forbes’ death is ongoing.
A representative from the Scottish Fatalities Investigation Unit (SFIU) indicated that the family of Forbes would be kept informed of any significant developments as the inquiry progresses.
