SHAUN CONNELLY DANGLES FROM DUNDEE WINDOW AFTER BREAK-IN AND THREATENING RAMPAGE
In a disturbing incident that unfolded in Dundee, Shaun Connelly, a 28-year-old man, was found by police hanging upside down from an upstairs window of his ex-girlfriend’s home.The events leading up to this dramatic scene reveal a troubling pattern of behavior and a confrontation that left the local community shaken.
It was the early hours of January 24 last year when the woman, who had recently ended her relationship with Connelly, was abruptly awakened by a commotion at her front door.
She initially thought she was dreaming as she heard loud banging and then detected the unmistakable sound of sniggering and laughter coming from outside her house on Laird Street, Dundee.
Her concern grew when she realized the noise persisted, prompting her to check on her children, who were sleeping in another room.
As she moved towards the staircase, she unexpectedly came face-to-face with Shaun Connelly on the landing.
His presence was alarming, and he made a chilling remark, saying, “You should have got that door fixed by now.” A struggle ensued between the two, during which Connelly threatened her, shouting that he was going to kill her.
The situation escalated further when Connelly, upon hearing that police were en route, attempted to jump out of a window in the children’s bedroom, risking serious injury.
Fortunately, the woman managed to restrain him, preventing him from escaping.
Moments later, police officers arrived at the scene, responding to an anonymous call reporting shouting and banging from the semi-detached house.
When the officers entered, they saw Connelly hanging from the first-floor window.
The officers quickly grabbed his legs and managed to pull him back inside the house.
The scene was distressing, with the children inside the home visibly upset, distressed, and screaming as they witnessed the chaos.
Connelly, who resides on Finavaon Terrace in Dundee, later admitted to police that he had been outside the house for several hours before forcing his way inside.
His actions included causing a disturbance, uttering threats to kill, and attempting to escape through the window.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Connelly and the complainant had a tumultuous on-off relationship that lasted three years but had ended approximately eight months prior to this incident.
Legal representatives highlighted Connelly’s acknowledgment of his misconduct, with solicitor Jim Caird stating, “He accepts he behaved extremely poorly.
There was no real explanation for why he went into the property.” The court was informed that Connelly’s behavior was unacceptable and dangerous, leading to a non-harassment order being issued against him for three years, prohibiting him from contacting or approaching his ex-girlfriend.
Sheriff Alistair Carmichael, who presided over the case, deferred sentencing to allow for background reports but warned Connelly that any breach of the order would constitute a criminal offense and could result in his return to court.
