SHANE REILLY FROM DUNDEE JAILED AGAIN FOR CHILD ABUSE VIDEOS AND SOCIAL MEDIA PAEDOPHILE GROUP
A man from Dundee with a disturbing history of child abuse offences has been sentenced to additional time behind bars after being found involved in sharing repulsive videos and participating in a paedophile social media group.Shane Reilly, aged 26, was once again convicted of serious offences related to child exploitation, highlighting the ongoing threat he poses to the community.
Reilly’s latest conviction stems from a police raid carried out at his flat on Balgarthno Road in Dundee on January 13 of the previous year.
During the operation, officers discovered a cache of vile videos on his mobile device, depicting children as young as three being subjected to abuse.
Some of these videos were classified at the highest level of depravity, underscoring the severity of the material he possessed.
The police investigation revealed that Reilly had been actively involved in a social media group chat called “Room 83 girls 3-8,” which was used by other paedophiles to share and discuss abusive content.
Cyber-crime officers, who conducted the raid, also found that Reilly had been participating in this illicit online community, further implicating him in the ongoing distribution of child abuse material.
At the time of his arrest, Reilly was not at home; police raided his residence early in the morning while he was out.
When he returned, officers were still searching for electronic devices.
His mobile phone was seized, and it was through this device that investigators uncovered his involvement in the social media group chat.
The discovery of these incriminating files and communications led to his subsequent prosecution.
Reilly appeared in Dundee Sheriff Court via video link on his 26th birthday to face the charges.
His defence solicitor, Carolyn Leckie, argued that Reilly had shown a desire to seek help, describing his attitude as having “commitment and indeed, drive” to address his offending behavior.
She suggested that he had previously been burying his head in the sand but was now fully accepting responsibility for his actions.
Leckie emphasized that Reilly was eager to speak with appropriate professionals and was at a point where he wanted to change.
She acknowledged his record of non-analogous offending and indicated that he was resigned to the possibility of another custodial sentence, expressing hope that treatment could help him address his issues.
Despite these pleas, the court found the offences to be extremely serious.
Reilly had previously admitted to taking or permitting the taking of indecent photographs of children, and he had been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for ten years.
He had also been convicted of harbouring child abuse videos between December 12, 2019, and January 13 of the previous year.
Additionally, he had been subject to a bail order from Alloa Sheriff Court just a month prior to the latest incident and had missed a court hearing in Dundee on July 13 of this year.
Currently serving a 30-month prison sentence, Reilly’s earliest possible release date was scheduled for October of the following year.
However, Sheriff Alastair Carmichael made it clear that the gravity of the offences left no room for leniency.
He stated, “I think you know there’s no alternative but a custodial sentence.
This is a serious offence.” Consequently, Reilly was sentenced to an additional year in prison, reinforcing the court’s stance on the severity of his crimes and the ongoing danger he represents to society.
