Dundee man placed on supervision after child abuse material offences

DUNDEE MAN PLACED ON SUPERVISION AFTER CHILD ABUSE MATERIAL OFFENCES

A 50-year-old man from Dundee who had requested to be incarcerated for possessing over 12,500 child abuse files was instead subjected to strict supervision conditions.

Scott Webster accumulated the disturbing collection of illicit material at his Letham, Angus residence from August 2009 through November 2024.

Authorities discovered that over 1,000 of these images, stored across three devices, were classified at the highest level of depravity.

In addition to the images, police specialists found 330 videos, 91 of which fell under Category A, with a combined duration exceeding ten hours.

Webster had previously admitted guilt at Dundee Sheriff Court to the charges related to downloading such material.

Initially, Webster had requested imprisonment, but instead, he was afforded the chance to engage with social workers.

Prior to sentencing, he underwent a psychological evaluation.

Sheriff Tim Niven-Smith commented: “I am pleased that I chose not to send you to jail because it’s quite clear why you behave in the way that you do.

The report has been very helpful to the court.” Webster was ordered to undergo three years of supervision.

During this period, he must comply with sex offender notification requirements and adhere to strict behavioural conditions that limit his access to electronic devices, the internet, and children.
