WOMAN ALMOST LOST HER HOME AFTER VIOLENT PARTNER CANCELLED HER MORTGAGE PAYMENTS
Baldwin, 27, of College Road, Birmingham, pleaded guilty to harassing her without violence at her Clifton address, and was found guilty after trial of engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, assault by beating, and fraud by false representation. In one scenario she received 13 messages in just one day from Baldwin, 30 phone calls, and calls with no caller identification.
Baldwin used her bank card to buy cocaine, accessed her work pay system, and gave himself an advance on her wages of £500, and spent it on himself.
The list of things he did went on and included: using gambling apps on her phone and running up debts, borrowing money from her friends which she had to pay back, spending £600 of her cash on the Very clothes catalogue, entering into a 'fake' tenancy agreement for her property which she believed was so he could claim Universal Credit, and regularly punching her in the arm.
Baldwin also said he was 'going to strangle her' and held her head underwater.
"He used her bank card and bank account," said Eunice Gedzah, prosecuting, on Tuesday (February 7).
She also logged into her account online and he cancelled multiple direct debits, many of which were refunded and he withdrew the cash for his own use.
Baldwin's actions led to her being in arrears on her mortgage, risking her home being repossessed as she was unable to afford the payments.
She ultimately resigned from her job due to Baldwin's relentless harassment and she is now struggling to find new employment after missing many mortgage payments.
Judge Stuart Rafferty, King's Counsel, refused to sentence Baldwin without a psychiatric report.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 17, and the judge told him via a link to prison: "Your behaviour throughout this long saga has been disturbing to say the least."
