NOTTINGHAM RAPIST CONFESSES ON SNAPCHAT AFTER THREAT TO 'TEACH HER A LESSON'
A Nottingham rapist who told his victim he was 'going to teach her a lesson' confessed to his vile crime in a Snapchat recording.James Monte, 43, pushed a woman face down onto a bed at a property in Northamptonshire before raping her on May 18 last year.
At his sentencing at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday, April 3, David Allan, prosecuting, explained Monte menacingly said "I'm going to teach you a lesson" before carrying out the attack.
Mr Allan said during the act Monte had put his hand on the victim's throat and squeezed.
His victim tried to make him stop by hitting him on the chest, but he did not stop and she was left sobbing after the attack.
Mr Allan explained Monte had committed the rape after a night of drinking and taking drugs.
He and his victim had been drinking at a Wetherspoon pub, but later returned to the Northamptonshire home and got into a drunken row, the court was told.
Afterwards his victim used Snapchat to record him as he admitted to raping her.
He was later arrested at his former address in Richardson Close, in Clifton, in July.
Monte was due to stand trial in January this year, but pleaded guilty to the crime just before it started.
James Varley, mitigating, said: "They were both drinking, they were both using cocaine.
It seems Mr Monte was using a great deal of cocaine." Mr Varley contested the woman's victim statement, in which she claimed not to be on social media and that she did not go out much anymore due to the mental impact of the rape.
"In sobriety he is ashamed.
It may just be the wake up call that prevents him from using substances in the future." Mr Varley said Monte had spent the past 10 months in HMP Nottingham, where he works in the staff bistro.
He added Monte was motivated to take part in rehabilitation and other training in prison.
Sentencing Monte, Judge Julie Warburton said: "You and she had been out drinking and had a drunken argument.
She was confused and thought you were playing a game but it became apparent it was not.
"She must have felt entirely violated by what you did." Judge Warburton added Monte had an "unenviable record", referring to his 23 previous criminal convictions which included a 12 year sentence for robbery.
However, the judge said: "You have accepted responsibility for what you did, you have not shied away from any of that." Monte was sentenced to four and a half years in prison, of which he will serve half before being released on licence.
He was also given a 10-year restraining order and was placed on the sex offender register.
Speaking after the sentencing, his victim said she was disappointed by the length of her rapist's sentence.
"I just feel let down.
The police worked so hard and I worked so hard.
The courts have basically done the easy thing." "I do not know how I got out alive that night - he is dangerous and women should know what he is.
This is going to affect me for the rest of my life."
