CLIFTON MAN JAILED FOR HORRIFYING ANIMAL CRUELTY AND MURDER
Lachlan Savage admitted to causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and neglecting to provide sufficient food and water, which resulted in the death of Cardy.During the hearing at Nottingham Crown Court, it was revealed that Savage abandoned one dog to die a "horrid and torturous death" inside his flat, and later, he beat another dog, Ralph, to death.
The remains of XL Bully Cardy, found in the bathtub of Savage's flat in Lanthwaite Close after being last seen four months prior, were in a state of decay.
Savage confessed to leaving Cardy in those conditions while staying at a relative's house, and also admitted to violently attacking Ralph, causing a fractured skull.
Although Savage claimed Ralph had fallen down the stairs, a post-mortem examination indicated his death was due to severe blunt force trauma, pointing to intentional cruelty.
Currently without a fixed address, Savage was sentenced to 20 months in jail and an animal ownership ban for ten years.
Judge Mark Watson remarked, "He undoubtedly died a horrid and tortuous death," and highlighted Savage’s past, which includes six previous convictions spanning nine offenses such as robbery and burglary.
Fergis Malone, representing Savage, noted that he grew up in care and experienced abuse, raising the question of whether he should be imprisoned.
The judge concluded that Savage had "tuned out of society and really needs to tune back in."
