CLIFTON MAN JAILED AFTER HARROWING TWO-YEAR STALKING CAMPAIGN
A man who stalked a woman for more than two years during which he committed a series of "harrowing" attacks has been jailed.Ashley Walker, of Highwray Grove, first began what police have described as a "campaign of intimidation" back in June last year.
Walker, 30, repeatedly messaged his victim before vandalising her car and mobile phone, and later turning up at her house, demanding to be let in.
He also made a throat-slashing gesture and slashed her tyres.
The woman watched from a window as he made the gesture and proceeded to slash her tyres.
On October 30, Walker followed her in a taxi, jumped on her car's bonnet to prevent her from driving off, and ripped off the number plate.
Later that evening, he armed himself with a knife and slashed all four tyres of her car, kicked the bodywork, and pulled off wing mirrors.
Walker was arrested and pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article and stalking.
He was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court to two-and-a-half years in prison and given a ten-year restraining order against the victim.
Tarel Rainey, 19, who helped by driving Walker to the final attack, pleaded guilty to assisting an offender and received 80 hours of community service.
Detective Sergeant Dave Nicks of Nottinghamshire Police stated: “This was an appalling and harrowing campaign of intimidation that left a young woman in genuine fear for her life.
Walker is a violent and controlling bully who deliberately set out to terrorise a young woman – all because she did not wish to carry on a relationship with him.” The police emphasized that stalking involves a pattern of fixated, obsessive, unwanted, and repeated behaviours, either in person or remotely, and urged victims to seek help and contact Nottinghamshire Police.
