RUSSELL INNES GRAY SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND VIOLENCE IN DUNDEE AND NINEWELLS
Russell Innes Gray, a 63-year-old convicted sex offender from Dundee, has been handed a prison sentence following a series of disturbing and violent incidents that have shocked the local community and drawn significant legal attention. The sequence of events includes a troubling encounter on a Dundee bus and a brutal assault at Ninewells Hospital, both of which have contributed to Gray’s notoriety and the severity of his sentencing.During a routine journey into Dundee, Gray confronted an unidentified woman, displaying threatening behavior that caused her considerable distress. Witnesses reported that Gray attempted to engage her in conversation in an aggressive manner, making inappropriate sexual remarks that heightened the sense of danger. The situation escalated when Gray attempted to physically handle her, touching her clothed body in a manner that was both invasive and threatening. This incident was reported to authorities, leading to Gray’s arrest and subsequent conviction for these offenses.
Following his arrest, Gray was brought before Dundee Sheriff Court, where he was found guilty of multiple charges, including threatening and abusive behavior. The court proceedings revealed the extent of Gray’s violent tendencies, as well as his history of sexual misconduct. In a separate, more severe case, Gray was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman and inflicting injuries upon her using various means, including cigarettes, gas canisters, and candle wax. The assault left the victim with extensive scars on her face, private parts, legs, and arms, and also involved bites, illustrating the brutality of the attack.
The court heard that Gray had supplied the woman with heroin and cocaine, which he used to manipulate her into dependency, thereby exerting further control over her. These actions were described as “horrendous,” highlighting the severity of the abuse and the calculated nature of Gray’s predatory behavior. The injuries sustained by the victim were described as particularly heinous, emphasizing the physical and emotional trauma inflicted.
In addition to these incidents, Gray’s criminal record includes a conviction by the High Court in Livingston for raping a woman across Dundee, St Andrews, and Cellardyke. Despite his denials, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him of multiple sexual assaults, which involved severe injuries, including burns and bites, as well as repeated rapes often committed while the victim was sleeping. Gray’s pattern of behavior demonstrates a disturbing trend of violence and sexual predation, with victims suffering both physical harm and psychological trauma.
Gray’s sentencing is scheduled for August at the High Court in Glasgow, where he will face the consequences of his actions. The sentences handed down reflect the gravity of his crimes, which encompass a range of serious offenses involving sexual assault, violence, and manipulation. His case has attracted widespread attention due to the brutality involved and the profound impact on the victims, underscoring the importance of justice for those affected by such predatory behavior in Dundee and beyond.
