DUNDEE MAN JAILED FOR HORRIFIC SEX CRIMES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS IN THE 1990S
A man named Ronald Hathway has been convicted and sentenced for a series of serious sexual offenses committed when he was aged between 12 and 14 in Dundee during the late 1990s.
He repeatedly assaulted one young girl, raped another victim three times, and attempted to rape her.
The court heard that the first victim was around eight or nine years old at the time, and the second was approximately six or seven.
Hathway, now 39 years old, has been sentenced to five years in prison and was placed on an indefinite sex offenders register.
Despite denying the charges during an earlier trial, he was found guilty of five offenses: one of indecent conduct, three of rape, and one of attempted rape.
The defense argued that Hathway's previous convictions were not for sexual offenses and highlighted that over 25 years had passed without similar offending.
They also claimed it was an 'exceptional case' due to his age at the time and the long period since the crimes.
The court imposed a verdict considering these factors and the seriousness of the crimes, which took place over two decades ago.
