ROBIE GOLDCELL'S HORRIFIC CRIME IN HULL: PAEDOPHILE PREYED ON VULNERABLE BOY
In November 2017, a disturbing case unfolded in Hull involving Robie Goldwell, a 44-year-old man who was convicted of heinous crimes against a young boy.The court heard that Goldwell exploited a particularly vulnerable 12-year-old boy, taking advantage of the fact that the child's mother often left him to fend for himself.
During these times of neglect, Goldwell targeted the boy, initially making him meals and gaining his trust.
According to court proceedings, Goldwell then subjected the young victim to further abuse by forcing him to watch homosexual pornography and ultimately sexually assaulting him.
The details of the case revealed a pattern of grooming and exploitation, with Goldwell engaging in multiple sexual activities with the underage boy.
Despite his denial of the allegations, claiming he felt sorry for the boy due to his family circumstances, the jury found him guilty of three counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child under 13, meeting a child following sexual grooming, causing a child to watch a sexual act, and sexually assaulting a child under 13.
Goldwell, who resides on Peel Street in west Hull, faced a trial at Hull Crown Court.
During sentencing, the defense, represented by John Thackray, argued that Goldwell was a naive individual and that his actions were isolated incidents.
Thackray emphasized that while the convictions were serious, they did not represent the worst cases the court has seen.
He described Goldwell as emotionally immature and noted that he had previously been accused of similar conduct, which was a shock to the defense.
The court was also informed that Goldwell had been in a long-term relationship with a man who continued to support him despite the conviction.
The judge, Simon Jack, acknowledged the severity of the crimes and the vulnerability of the victim, stating, “Your victim was vulnerable and that’s why it was easy for you to get him into your home.” Judge Jack sentenced Goldwell to four and a half years in prison.
An additional month was added to his sentence because he failed to attend court on the first day of his trial.
Furthermore, Goldwell was ordered to comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and is required to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.
