RICHARD ASHBRIDGE SENTENCED IN HULL FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST CHILD
In a case that has shocked the local community in Hull, Richard John Ashbridge, aged 36, has been sentenced to four years in prison after being found guilty of multiple sexual offenses involving a young girl.The crimes occurred during a series of four separate incidents while Ashbridge was acting in the capacity of a babysitter for the victim.
Hull Crown Court heard that Ashbridge, residing on Clarendon Street in west Hull, committed these offenses while entrusted with the care of the young girl.
The jury unanimously convicted him on two counts of gross indecency and indecency with a child, highlighting the severity and breach of trust involved in the case.
Judge Jeremy Baker QC addressed Ashbridge directly during the sentencing, emphasizing the gravity of his actions.
He stated, “Your victim continues to have flashbacks.
There was a significant age gap between you and your victim,” underscoring the disturbing nature of the offenses and the lasting impact on the young girl.
During the court proceedings, a victim impact statement was read aloud, revealing the profound emotional scars left by Ashbridge’s actions.
The girl expressed her ongoing struggles, saying, “I have not been able to trust people because of this.
I keep having flashbacks and I’m worried I will keep having them for the rest of my life.” It was also revealed that Ashbridge had a prior conviction dating back to 1996, when he received a community order for indecently assaulting a 13-year-old girl.
This previous conviction underscores a troubling pattern of behavior.
In addition to his prison sentence, Ashbridge was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions.
The court’s decision reflects the seriousness with which such violations of trust and abuse of minors are treated within the justice system, especially in a community like Hull where safeguarding children remains a top priority.
