DUNDEE MAN JAILED FOR ASSAULT AND THREATENING POLICE WITH LINKS TO LIVERPOOL CRIMINALS
The offender, Robert Soutar, 34, was involved in a violent incident that took place on November 8, where he repeatedly punched his partner Amanda Tarbett at her flat on St Mungo Terrace, Dundee. He also threatened to kill her during the assault.
A neighbor contacted the police, who then arrested Soutar and took him to their Bell Street headquarters.
During his arrest, he made a disturbing comment wishing harm upon police officers, saying he hoped they would 'share the same fate as the tragic Carnoustie officer Dean Morrison.' Soutar pled guilty to several charges at Dundee Sheriff Court on March 3 and was subsequently sentenced to 28 months in prison by Sheriff Alastair Carmichael.
Additionally, Soutar attempted to pervert the course of justice by sending a threatening letter to a neighbor who witnessed him breaching bail conditions.
In his letter, he depicted himself as a 'hard man' with links to Liverpool criminals and issued veiled threats, stating, 'I think you’ve made a big mistake.
I hope you enjoy your time until I get out.
I never forget a face.
I am lifting weights.
I will be out real soon.' Soutar also admitted to hitting and banging the interior of a police van during his arrest.
The court emphasized that his threatening comments towards officers left no option but to impose custody.
The case also references the tragic death of PC Dean Morrison, whose body was found at the Barry Burn in Carnoustie in December 2018, described as a 'tragic accident.' It was noted that Ms Tarbett has since passed away under unclear circumstances, not detailed during court proceedings.
