DOMESTIC ABUSER GIVEN FINAL CHANCE FOLLOWING TWO ASSAULTS ON PARTNER
A 55-year-old man who confessed to assaulting his partner on two separate occasions has been granted a two-month period to demonstrate his ability to avoid further trouble.Robert Jack admitted to attacking Audrey Jorgensen at Broughty Castle on July 26, during which he punched her in the head and pulled her hair.
Additionally, he pleaded guilty to an assault on Ms.
Jorgensen on November 9, involving throwing a cup, hitting her with a shoe, and repeatedly punching her in the head, resulting in injury.
He also acknowledged behaving aggressively at Balunie Avenue on November 6.
During the hearing, solicitor Mike Short explained that Jack, who has a history of alcohol misuse, is currently in “the best position he has been in for a long time.” Addressing Jack, Sheriff Alastair Brown stated that he was being “given the chance” to change his behavior.
When asked if he believed he could stay out of trouble, Jack responded confidently, saying, “Yes, I’m 100% sure.” The court deferred sentencing for two months, with Sheriff Brown remarking, “I am giving you the chance to do that.
Looking at this report, the only thing being recommended is custody.
I don’t think custody is going to help you.
It would give the public some relief for a few short months but that’s all.” He acknowledged Jack’s struggles but offered no specific assistance, simply giving him the opportunity to prove himself.
The sentence was deferred on the condition of good behavior until March 6.
