DUNDEE WOMAN LEFT WITH STAMMER AFTER CHOKE ATTACK BY DOMESTIC ABUSER
A woman was subjected to a brutal choke attack by her partner, Robert Christie, in Dundee, which resulted in her developing a stammer.During the incident, Christie also threatened her with death while wielding a knife.
He was subsequently convicted of assault and other related charges after a jury at Dundee’s sheriff court found him guilty in November 2024.
The court heard that Christie seized the woman’s throat and pushed her against a door before compressing her neck, restricting her breathing and causing injury.
He also presented a knife and threatened to kill her, leading to convictions for assault causing injury and assault impairing health.
The woman described how the attack left her with a permanent stammer.
Christie, a convicted drug dealer, was taken to court following the incident, and a social work report was prepared.
His solicitor, Mike Short, argued that Christie abused alcohol and drugs to cope with past trauma and proposed a three-year community payback order to tackle his issues.
However, Sheriff Alastair Carmichael described the assault as highly dangerous due to the neck compression and threats, emphasizing that only a custodial sentence was appropriate.
Christie was sentenced to 36 months in prison and was also given a 10-year non-harassment order.
