ROBBIE THOMPSON FROM DUNDEE FOUND GUILTY OF RAPE IN SHOCKING CASE INVOLVING 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Dundee, Robbie Thompson, a 20-year-old man with known learning difficulties, was implicated in the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl during an incident in August 2020.The assault reportedly took place at a residence within the city, specifically in the Whitfield area, where Thompson was present at the time.
Thompson was accused of engaging in non-consensual sexual activity with the young girl, an allegation that has brought significant attention to issues surrounding consent and vulnerability.
Despite the serious nature of the charges, Thompson was deemed unfit to stand trial due to mental health concerns, which led to a unique legal process known as an examination of the facts being conducted at the High Court in Dundee.
During this hearing, Judge Brown presided over the proceedings and expressed his confidence that the evidence presented established Thompson's guilt.
The judge stated, “The court has to be satisfied the accused did the act which constitutes the act of rape.” The evidence included forensic findings from scientist Gary Nolan, who examined the evidence collected from the scene.
Nolan confirmed that DNA matching the victim’s profile was found on the inside of Thompson’s boxer shorts, indicating that sexual contact had occurred.
Further medical evidence was presented by Doctor Conway, who observed genital injuries consistent with trauma and penetration, supporting the assertion that a sexual assault had taken place.
Judge Brown emphasized, “Genitalia injuries he agreed appeared consistent with a blunt force (trauma) which showed evidence of penetration,” and added, “DNA on the boxer shorts of the accused was consistent with the view vaginal intercourse had occurred.” Despite Thompson’s mental health status, the judge was unequivocal in his conclusion, stating, “I am entirely satisfied the accused did the act.” As a result, Thompson was ordered to register as a sex offender with the police, a standard procedure in cases involving sexual crimes.
The examination of the facts is scheduled to continue in eight weeks at the High Court in Glasgow, where further assessments and determinations regarding additional penalties or restrictions will be made.
The court also decided to excuse Thompson from attending the next hearing, which will focus on finalizing the case and any sentencing or restrictions that may be imposed beyond the sex offender registration requirement.
