Mar 2013 Man appears in court accused of raping woman and two children A man has appeared in court charged with three counts of rapes over a seven-year period. Peter Whyte was arrested on Friday as part of Tayside Police’s Operation Brownlee, set up to investigate allegations of “historic” sexual abuse. His arrest came after a lengthy investigation and forensic examination of a flat in Balunie Avenue, Dundee. On Monday Mr Whyte appeared on petition on three separate charges of rape. It is alleged that he raped one girl, then aged nine, between May and November 2005 at a flat in Dundee. A second charge alleges that between November 2005 and July 2008 Whyte raped another girl – then aged between four and seven – after threatening to kill her and forcing her to watch sexually explicit films. It is alleged that another unnamed person was involved in that attack, which allegedly took place at a second flat in the city. Mr Whyte faces a third charge that in September last year he raped a woman at the same flat. Mr Whyte, 22, of Maitland Street, Dundee, made no plea or declaration when he appeared on petition at Dundee Sheriff Court. Sheriff George Way continued the case for further examination after a brief private hearing, and released Whyte on bail. A spokesman for Tayside Police said: “Tayside Police can confirm that a 22-year-old local man has been arrested and cautioned and charged with serious sexual offences of a historical nature in Dundee, committed between 2005 and 2012.”
