In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Dundee, 37-year-old Paul Ower has been found guilty of possessing a large collection of child sexual abuse images. The images, which depict some of the most heinous forms of exploitation, were discovered at his former residence in Dundee, where he previously lived with his mother.
According to court records, the police made the unsettling discovery during an unrelated investigation.
Ower was not initially targeted for this offense; rather, the images came to light when authorities seized his phone in connection with another matter.
The forensic analysis revealed a cache of indecent images, many of which were at the highest level of depravity, involving children as young as three years old.
The court heard that the images, totaling 367 in number, had been deleted but could still be recovered from Ower’s device.
The evidence indicated that he had been in possession of these illicit materials between October 7, 2020, and January 22, 2022.
Ower subsequently pleaded guilty to the charges of possessing indecent images of children, a crime that has profound implications for the victims and the community alike.
In sentencing, Sheriff Alastair Carmichael emphasized the severity of the offense and the need for appropriate punishment.
Ower was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of 18 months and to undergo supervision during this time.
As an alternative to a custodial sentence, the court mandated that Ower complete 210 hours of unpaid community work, reflecting the seriousness of his actions and the importance of rehabilitation and public safety.
