DUNDEE MAN SENTENCED FOR ASSAULTING GIRLFRIEND AFTER DROPPING PHONE DOWN TOILET
A violent thug from Dundee who attacked his girlfriend after she dropped his mobile phone down the toilet has been ordered to pay her £2,000 compensation.Paul Graham, 49, was convicted of assaulting his then-partner to her severe injury and impairment following a two-day trial at Perth Sheriff Court.
The jury found him guilty 'by provocation'.
Sheriff Gillian Wade acknowledged the seriousness of the offence, stating: “This offence clearly was very serious.
However, I take account that you were convicted of significantly less than what you were originally charged with.
Nevertheless, you are at the threshold where custody is a possibility.” Graham was sentenced to a community payback order involving high-end retribution and restorative justice, including paying his ex-partner £2,000 in compensation at £200 per month and completing 200 hours of unpaid work.
Sheriff Wade also placed him on supervision for a year and issued a two-year non-harassment order, warning that non-compliance would lead to further court action.
The incident occurred during an argument after Graham’s partner attempted to leave the room with his phone, which resulted in him grabbing her by the hair, pulling her to the floor, and punching her in the face, causing a fractured cheekbone.
She recalled feeling she was going to die during the assault.
The victim was later treated at Ninewells Hospital for her injury.
Graham admitted his behavior was "totally and utterly inappropriate," and had a prior clean record aside from a minor traffic offense.
