PATRICK MONGAN OF FIFE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON TEENAGE GIRL IN GLASGOW CROWN COURT

In January 2015, a 31-year-old Gypsy traveller named Patrick Mongan, from the 'Heathery Wood' campsite in Fife, was sentenced to prison for a heinous sexual assault on a 16-year-old girl.

Mongan appeared at Glasgow Crown Court to face charges related to an attempted rape that occurred in Kirkcaldy in 2013.

The court was told that Mongan, who was a work colleague of a relative of the victim, had visited their house shortly before the incident.

The victim awoke in her own bed to find Mongan molesting her; she was partially undressed from the waist down.

Mongan had removed his own underwear and was about to commit a rape when he was interrupted by a scream from another person sleeping in the same room.

During the trial, it was revealed that Mongan’s family received death threats aimed at silencing them from speaking out.

Additionally, Mongan attempted to blackmail the victim’s family for money.

Mongan was sentenced to four years in prison and was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

It was also noted that Mongan had a prior conviction in 2010 for acting as a cowboy builder, which involved defrauding pensioners of over £10,000.
