Allan Grieve

Fife Falkirk Sexual Abuser

June 2006 Child porn images teacher jailed An assistant rector who downloaded hundreds of child porn pictures has been jailed for six months. Allan Grieve, formerly of Falkirk High School, blamed his crime on job-related stress and worry about his elderly mother. At Stirling Sheriff Court Grieve, 45, was also ordered to be supervised for two years following his release. The first offender, who lived alone, had built up a collection of 400 images of child pornography. Grieve, now living in Dunfermline, admitted downloading and possessing indecent images of girls and boys under the age of 16 at his former home in Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire. He was also placed on the sex offenders register for seven years. Sentencing him, Sheriff Wyllie Robertson said that only a jail term was appropriate for his crime. Several images kept by Grieve were described as “category four”, the most serious kind of child porn. An abused baby in one of the pictures was the youngest child in images recovered by Central Scotland Police’s specialist computer crime unit. Grieve also had some of the illegal images stored on a computer memory stick in his shirt pocket when police confronted him at the 1,200-pupil high school on 23 August, 2005. His collection came to light after police investigated claims that he had offered sweets to a 12-year-old girl in an Alloa supermarket car park and followed an 11-year-old girl and threatened to make her get in his car. ‘Considerable work stress’ Sheriff Robertson said he accepted that Grieve was a first offender with an “unblemished record”. The sheriff told him: “You have lost your employment, your status and your reputation. “What is of particular concern, as to your profession, is that once you have downloaded them you continue to look at them for days and days.” Defence agent Grant Markie told the court that Grieve’s friends had expressed “incredulity” at his involvement and his long-term girlfriend was standing by him. “It appears there was a confluence between considerable stress he was experiencing at work, compounded by his extra-curricular activities,” he said. “He has worked for a number of years for Stirling Albion and the stress of caring for his elderly mother who has suffered a stroke and is in a nursing home.” Grieve, a teacher for 22 years, was suspended from his job at Falkirk High School before resigning in April 2006.
