DEAN DICKSON SENTENCED FOR CHILD RAPE IN FIFE - HIGH COURT EDINBURGH
In August 2004, a man named Dean Dickson was handed a severe sentence by the High Court in Edinburgh after being convicted of heinous crimes involving the sexual assault of young girls in Fife. The court heard that Dickson, aged 40 and working as a labourer, had committed these disturbing acts against two 11-year-old girls in the town of Methil, a part of Fife.
His criminal actions spanned over a period of time, with the first assault occurring in 2001, when he attacked one of the young victims.
Following this initial incident, Dickson continued to engage in sexual activity with her, causing profound trauma and damage.
The second girl was raped between April 2003 and March of the following year, marking a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.
During the sentencing, Lord McEwan, the presiding judge, expressed his condemnation of Dickson’s actions, emphasizing the lasting harm inflicted upon the victims.
The judge stated, "Your behaviour has caused untold and as yet, I suspect, unseen damage to them forever.
For that you will be severely punished." The court acknowledged the extensive nature of the offences, describing them as a catalogue of disturbing acts.
At the time of sentencing, Dickson was described as a prisoner held at Perth jail, though he was formerly a resident of Methil.
The judge noted that the only mitigating factor was Dickson’s early guilty plea, which somewhat lessened the severity of his punishment.
As a result of his conviction, Dean Dickson was sentenced to nine years in prison.
Additionally, he will be subject to a three-year period of supervision after his release, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his conduct.
He has also been registered on the sex offenders’ register, a measure aimed at safeguarding the community from potential future harm.
His legal counsel argued that Dickson had shown genuine remorse for his actions, a factor considered during the sentencing process.
Nonetheless, the court’s decision underscores the gravity of his crimes and the lasting impact on his young victims.
