PARAMVIR SINGH INVERNESS SEX OFFENCE CASE: SENTENCE DEFERRED AFTER GUILTY VERDICT
In September 2021, a man from Inverness faced a significant legal proceeding at the city’s sheriff court following his conviction for a sexual assault. The individual, identified as Paramvir Singh, aged 39 and residing on Dunain Road, was found guilty of one of the charges brought against him, while the other charge was not proven.
Singh had been accused of committing two separate sexual offences involving inappropriate touching of two women in Inverness.
These incidents allegedly took place over a span of three years, specifically in 2019, 2020, and 2021, with the locations primarily being in Bank Street, Inverness.
The allegations included touching the women’s bottoms and an attempt to kiss one of them, actions which Singh denied.
During the trial, evidence was presented by the two women involved, who for legal reasons cannot be identified.
The court, presided over by Sheriff Ian Cruickshank, carefully examined the testimonies and evidence before reaching a verdict.
Singh was convicted of one offence that occurred on February 8, 2021, but the court found insufficient evidence to prove the other charge beyond a reasonable doubt.
Following the conviction, the court decided to defer sentencing Singh until September 23.
This delay was granted to allow for the preparation of a background report and an assessment regarding the potential restriction of Singh’s liberty.
In the meantime, Singh was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register, a standard procedure in cases involving sexual offences.
Overall, the case highlights the ongoing legal processes in Inverness concerning sexual misconduct allegations and the importance of thorough judicial review in such sensitive cases.
