INVERNESS SEX OFFENDER JACK BEATON COMPLAINS ABOUT TOILET PAPER IN JAIL

In November 2013, Jack Beaton, a man convicted of heinous sexual offenses involving three children, voiced his frustrations about conditions within Glenochil Prison, located near Stirling.

Beaton, who is currently serving a six-year sentence, took to the prisoners’ magazine Insidetime to express his grievances, specifically highlighting the lack of toilet paper and how it was affecting his mental state.

Beaton, aged 48, detailed his feelings of vulnerability and frustration, stating, “I am a quiet-spoken person who already finds it difficult to open up and trust people and this constant rejection of requests has changed my character.

I am becoming aggressive and vindictive – two qualities that I dislike.” His complaints suggest that the conditions in prison are exacerbating his emotional and psychological distress, which he claims is leading to increased aggression and a desire for revenge.

He further elaborated on his experience, describing it as a daunting first time in incarceration.

Beaton wrote, “I have found it a worthless task asking the officers for anything.

Even the simplest requests for toilet roll has led to aggressive refusals.

It is my first time in prison.

I’m scared.

It is a feeling like the first day of school.” Despite Beaton’s complaints, the Scottish Prison Service has maintained that there is “adequate provision” of toilet paper in all jails, including Glenochil.

His grievances come amid ongoing legal proceedings, as Beaton was found guilty in December of multiple sexual offenses committed between 2009 and 2011.

He was convicted of four charges involving the sexual abuse of a boy and two girls, all under the age of 16.

Originally from Inverness, Beaton is a member of a church fellowship in the city.

Throughout the legal process, he maintained his innocence, denying all charges.

His crimes were committed over a span of two years, from January 6, 2009, to January 5, 2011.

In January 2013, Beaton was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow to six years in prison for his offenses.

The presiding judge, Lord Bannatyne, described Beaton’s conduct as a “dreadful breach of trust” and emphasized the severity of his crimes.

Lord Bannatyne stated, “You have been convicted of a number of serious offences which when taken together amount to an appalling course of conduct.

This was a dreadful breach of trust and you have taken utterly no responsibility for your offending.

A substantial custodial sentence is appropriate.” Additionally, Beaton will be subject to two years of supervised release upon his parole and has been placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

His case underscores the gravity of his actions and the ongoing concerns regarding sexual abuse within the community and the justice system’s response to such crimes.
