STEPHEN CAMERON INVERNESS SEXUAL PREDATOR JAILED FOR ABUSING 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN GOLSPIE
In a case that has shocked the local community, Stephen Cameron, a 26-year-old man from Inverness, has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison after admitting to engaging in sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl from Sutherland.The incident took place in Golspie, a small village in the Highlands, and the court proceedings revealed disturbing details about Cameron’s actions and his connections to the young victims.
According to court reports, Cameron was described as a sexual predator during the hearing at Dornoch Sheriff Court.
The case centered around his interactions with two young girls, one of whom was only 13 years old, and the other a 15-year-old.
Cameron knew both girls through a mutual acquaintance and maintained contact with them via social media platforms such as Facebook and through text messages.
The court heard that on January 7th of the previous year, a Facebook message was sent by one of the girls requesting Cameron to buy alcohol for her.
Prosecutor Roderick Urquhart explained that upon receiving this request, Cameron traveled approximately 50 miles from his residence at the Waverley Hotel on Union Street in Inverness to Golspie.
Once there, he met the two girls along with two of their friends in the village.
Cameron then purchased a two-liter bottle of Buckfast cider and a bottle of Smirnoff Ice from a local shop.
The four girls subsequently sat in Cameron’s car and consumed the alcohol together until around 10:30 pm, at which point Cameron dropped them off in the village center.
However, instead of returning directly to Inverness, Cameron drove past the 13-year-old girl and offered her a lift, which she accepted.
He then took her to a car park in Golspie, where they got into the back seat of his vehicle.
It was there that the sexual act occurred.
The girl, who was heavily intoxicated, described herself as “pretty drunk” and later told authorities that she had disclosed her age to Cameron.
Despite her drunken state, she asked him to use a condom, and she later stated that if she had not been drinking, she would not have gone through with the act and found it difficult to say no.
Following the incident, Cameron voluntarily attended Tain Police Station the next day and provided a statement.
He subsequently admitted to two charges: first, purchasing alcohol on behalf of a minor at West End Stores in Golspie, and second, engaging in sexual activity with a child at Big Burn Car Park, also in Golspie, both occurring on January 7th.
During the court hearing, defense lawyer Craig Wood argued that Cameron’s actions were not premeditated.
He explained that his client had lost his job with an electrical retailer due to the incident and had also been asked to leave a college placement for advanced mechanics because of a bail condition that prohibited him from being in the company of girls under 16 without supervision.
Additionally, Cameron had been forced to leave his family home in Inverness due to hostility and violence from various individuals.
Mr.
Wood challenged the social work report, which described Cameron as “unrepentant and arrogant” and accused him of displaying predatory behavior.
The lawyer emphasized that the incident was not planned and that Cameron had asked the girl if she was old enough, to which she responded affirmatively.
He acknowledged that Cameron should have made further inquiries about her age, especially given her appearance, which included fake eyelashes and heavy black mascara.
In sentencing, Sheriff David Cameron emphasized the seriousness of the charges.
He stated, “These are very serious charges against young girls.
You entered into Facebook conversation with the girls, drove some 50 miles to buy alcohol, and then allowed them to consume it.
You took advantage of the inebriated state of a young girl.” The sheriff concurred with the social work report’s description of Cameron’s conduct as predatory and concluded that given the gravity of the offense, a custodial sentence was the only appropriate punishment.
