DUNDEE MAN OWEN NEAVE ADMITTED TO ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR TOWARD PARTNER IN FOUR-YEAR NIGHTMARE
A man from Dundee, Owen Neave, has confessed to a pattern of controlling and violent behavior towards his partner, which spanned over four years and included physical assaults, verbal abuse, and psychological torment.The disturbing details emerged during a court hearing, revealing a history of relentless abuse that left the victim bruised, swollen, and emotionally shattered.
Neave’s abusive conduct was not limited to isolated incidents but was a persistent campaign of intimidation and violence.
Between 2019 and 2023, at an address in Dundee, he repeatedly attacked the woman, often in front of children, creating a hostile and unsafe environment.
The court heard that Neave’s actions included grabbing her phone to scrutinize her contacts, accusing her of infidelity, and displaying extreme paranoia that fueled his controlling tendencies.
One particularly alarming incident involved Neave violently punching the woman in the head while she was asleep in their home.
She awoke to find herself being repeatedly struck, which prompted her to flee the scene and seek refuge at a friend’s house.
However, her friend was not at home, and upon her return, Neave was no longer there.
The assault resulted in severe bruising and swelling on her face, highlighting the brutality of his attack.
In the aftermath, she moved in temporarily with her sister to escape the ongoing violence.
The court also heard about the verbal abuse that Neave subjected his partner to, which included shouting, swearing, and making derogatory remarks.
The victim described days when she felt so overwhelmed by the mental abuse that she was unable to get out of bed.
Neave’s hostility extended to spitting on her during arguments, either directly on her face or on the back of her head, an act that further degraded her dignity.
Additionally, he kicked her, causing large bruises on her legs, and in one incident in February 2023, he attempted to choke her with one hand for about ten seconds.
She managed to break free after biting him, but not before sustaining bruises on her neck and arm.
Neave, aged 30, admitted to engaging in an abusive course of conduct towards his partner from April 1, 2019, to March 4, 2023, at their Dundee residence.
His guilty plea was entered at Dundee Sheriff Court, where Sheriff Tim Niven-Smith deferred sentencing until November to allow for a social work report to be prepared.
The court’s decision underscores the seriousness of the allegations and the ongoing legal process to address his actions.
