NICHOLAS DENISON, SCOTTISH OFFENDER, FLED TO TRURO AFTER RIOTS IN FIFE
In December 2021, Nicholas Denison, a 62-year-old convicted paedophile originally from Scotland, was ordered to remain confined to his home in Truro, Cornwall, after fleeing his residence in Fife.Denison had previously been convicted in June for sending explicit images of his genitals to what he believed were girls aged 12 and 13.
He was tagged with an electronic curfew for his Crossgates residence in Fife.
However, following unrest outside his Scottish home and the departure of his wife, he escaped to Truro in July, breaching the conditions of his liberty order.
Authorities warned that he could face jail if he remained in England.
Dunfermline Sheriff Court was informed in July that Denison had moved out of Scotland, and his restriction was suspended for three months.
A subsequent court hearing was scheduled to decide if he should be imprisoned, but Denison failed to attend.
During the hearing, legal representatives revealed that his wife had left him and that he had no plans to leave England.
Sheriff Wylie Robertsson sentenced Denison to a new three-month electronic tag curfew at his Truro address, which runs concurrently with 300 hours of unpaid work and three years of supervision.
Back in June 2021, local residents expressed their fears about Denison, writing directly to Sheriff Charles Macnair.
Denison, then aged 61, had used social media platform Kik to send vile images and pornographic videos to what he believed were accounts belonging to children.
In reality, these were police decoys.
The neighbors described feeling unable to let their children play freely nearby due to his actions.
Sheriff Macnair noted that although the case met the criteria for a custodial sentence, he chose to impose a longer supervision period instead, considering it more appropriate given the circumstances.
He stated, "You committed these offences over a significant period of weeks.
You thought you were contacting young girls.
In fact, happily, you were in contact with police officers.
Although you say it was not your intention to have contact, this sort of offending often leads to actual contact and is typical grooming behaviour.” The court ordered Denison, of Baxter Road, Crossgates, to be on a three-year supervision order and carry out 300 hours of unpaid work.
Additionally, he received an overnight curfew for four months and was subject to conditions, including no contact with individuals under 16 without approval.
He was also placed on the sex offenders register.
The court previously heard that Denison believed he had sent 11 explicit images and videos to an account believing to belong to a 13-year-old, and numerous indecent photos to another claiming to be 12.
He had uploaded these images under the username “Jaww Blowws.” When police conducted a raid on his address, Denison confessed to the offences.
Last month, he admitted to sending explicit material to individuals he believed were 12 and 13-year-olds in January and February.
