NIALL MASON DOUBTLESSLY OUT OF DUNDEE FC FOLLOWING TRIAL REVELATIONS IN DUNDEE
Niall Mason will not be joining Dundee FC, as the club has decided to halt his trial period.
The 24-year-old former Doncaster and Peterborough full-back had been training with the Dark Blues recently, but the club chose not to extend a contract for the upcoming season.
Mason's background has caused significant controversy among Dundee supporters.
In January 2019, while playing for Doncaster Rovers, he was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman in a South Yorkshire nightclub.
The court revealed he grabbed her hair, pulled her towards him, and groped her breast.
Mason initially denied the allegations but later pleaded guilty.
He was handed a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and was placed on the sex offender register for seven years.
His trial led to widespread outrage among fans, with more than 250 people signing an open letter demanding his release from the club.
Glasgow-based journalist and Dundee fan Niall Christie, who authored the letter, highlighted the potential damage to the club's community values, saying, 'Bringing a player with this background into the club would simply be an insult to fans.' He also raised concerns about the impact on the club's reputation and younger supporters, emphasizing the importance of club integrity.
