NATHAN GRAY FROM DUNDEE INVOLVED IN SEX OFFENDER SCANDAL AT LOCAL DRINKING DEN

In March 2017, a disturbing case emerged involving Nathan Gray, a man from Dundee, who was found to have engaged in highly inappropriate and illegal activities concerning a young child.

The case revealed that Gray, aged 27 and residing on Arklay Street, had been involved in a series of troubling incidents that raised serious concerns about child safety and the conduct of registered sex offenders in the community.

It was brought to light that Gray had been regularly taking a young girl, the child of his former partner, to a local drinking establishment.

This venue was not just any social spot but was reportedly filled with convicted sex offenders, raising alarm about the environment in which the child was being exposed to.

The child's mother, upon discovering this pattern of visits, was understandably shocked and distressed.

She took immediate action by contacting the police to investigate the situation further.

The court proceedings against Gray detailed that he had previously served an 18-month prison sentence in 2014 for engaging in sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl he had met through Facebook.

Despite serving his sentence and being subject to a sexual offences prevention order, Gray was found to have breached this order multiple times.

The order explicitly prohibited him from having any contact with children under the age of 16, yet he continued to be in contact with the young girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

According to evidence presented in Dundee Sheriff Court, a witness reported that Gray’s flat was often visited by friends who were also registered sex offenders.

These visitors would spend time drinking and socializing in Gray’s residence, which was located in Dundee.

The witness, who was aware that Gray had been imprisoned, was unaware of the reasons for his incarceration or his status as a registered sex offender until social workers informed her.

She later visited Gray’s flat and observed the young girl, aged three, in the company of Gray in the living room.

The witness recounted that she questioned the child's father about his decision to leave his daughter with Gray.

The father, who was separated from the child's mother, claimed he had no issue with Gray being with his daughter, despite being fully aware of Gray’s criminal background.

To conceal the nature of his association with Gray from the child's mother, the father reportedly told the child that Gray was called James.

Following these revelations, the witness contacted the child's mother via Facebook to inform her of Gray’s contact with her daughter.

The child's mother then confronted the child's father, who denied knowing Gray altogether.

This denial prompted the mother to cease contact with the father and to report the matter to the police.

When police officers arrested Gray, he responded with threats, including a warning that he would stab the woman who had informed the child's mother about his contact with the girl.

Gray subsequently pleaded guilty to charges of breaching the sexual offences prevention order and behaving in a threatening and abusive manner at Dundee Police Headquarters after his arrest on November 18 of the previous year.

The court, presided over by Sheriff Lorna Drummond QC, sentenced Gray to 11 months in prison.

The sheriff emphasized the gravity of the breach, noting that Gray’s repeated contact with a child, despite the restrictions, was a serious offense warranting custody.

Further details of Gray’s criminal history revealed that prior to this incident, he had been in contact with the same girl on Facebook.

In May 2014, Gray had asked her how she was doing after she had skipped school.

The girl responded that she was truanting, and Gray invited her to his Dundee home.

Once there, Gray engaged in sexual activity with her, taking advantage of her trust and youth.

The sheriff described Gray’s actions as an exploitation of the girl, leading to his imprisonment.

During the earlier case, Gray, then aged 24 and residing on Brewery Lane in Dundee, admitted to unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl aged between 13 and 16.

The court heard that he had initially contacted her via Facebook, and after she arrived at his home, he locked the door and engaged in sexual activity with her.

The girl was visibly distressed and tearful when recounting the incident, which she found difficult to speak about.

She explained that Gray had pulled her onto the bed and had sex with her, despite her protests and attempts to resist.

Gray’s defense argued that he had made a mistake and had never served a custodial sentence before.

Nonetheless, the court, under Sheriff Tom Hughes, sentenced him to 18 months in prison and ordered him to register as a sex offender.

The sheriff condemned Gray’s conduct as a serious abuse of a young girl’s trust and emphasized the importance of protecting children from such predatory behavior.
