MORGAN PRIOR AND SHOCKING SEXUAL OFFENCES IN DUNDEE
A counsellor for a children's charity, who gained public attention by appearing in a BBC documentary discussing his controversial polyamorous lifestyle, has been convicted of serious sexual offences.Morgan Prior, a 33-year-old man with distinctive ponytails, was found guilty by a jury at the High Court in Dundee of raping one woman and committing a severe sexual assault on another woman more than a decade ago.
Following the verdict, Prior was remanded into custody, with the court issuing a stark warning that he faces a lengthy imprisonment.
While he was convicted on two main charges—one of rape and another of a serious sexual assault—he was acquitted of four additional sexual offence charges, including an attempted rape from 2011 and an indecent assault on a 16-year-old girl in 2008.
During the hearing, Temporary Judge Gallacher emphasized the gravity of the crimes, stating: "It is not remotely conceivable that a non-custodial sentence will follow.
You have been convicted of two charges.
One is serious and the other is very serious and the inevitable outcome I will address more comprehensively and completely at the next calling of the case.
You have been convicted of offences which will inevitably result in a significant period of custody." The judge deferred sentencing until later, requesting reports from the High Court in Glasgow, with a sentencing hearing scheduled for July 18.
One of the victims provided harrowing testimony, revealing that she was attacked by Prior in December 2010.
She described how he restrained her by straddling her and using his legs to pin her to a bed before raping her.
The other woman recounted an incident from October 2010, where Prior sexually assaulted her at an address in Dundee; she described how he detached her clothing, groped her, and made sexually explicit remarks while pinning her down.
The case illustrates a troubling pattern of offending that has brought significant distress and trauma to the victims involved.
Despite his prior public persona and appearances discussing his unconventional personal life, the court’s verdict underscores the serious criminal conduct Morgan Prior engaged in, leading to his conviction and the expectation of a substantial prison sentence in the near future.
