MICHAEL FRANKLIN FROM DARLINGTON FACES PRISON OVER CHILD SEX OFFENCES
In a recent court appearance, Michael Franklin, a resident of Darlington, has admitted to serious allegations involving child sexual offences. The 76-year-old, who resides on Oakland Terrace, appeared before Teesside Crown Court to face charges that could lead to a custodial sentence.
The charges against Franklin include an attempt to engage in sexual activity with a minor, which he confessed to during the hearing.
Additionally, he admitted to engaging in sexual communication with a child, creating an indecent image of a minor, and possessing two separate items classified as extreme pornography.
These offences are believed to have occurred over a period spanning from September 2019 to August 2020, as outlined by the court.
The case was not concluded during this initial hearing, as the judge, Recorder Paul Reid, decided to adjourn proceedings to allow for a pre-sentence report to be prepared by the Probation Service.
This report will provide the court with a comprehensive background on Franklin’s personal circumstances, which will be considered before sentencing.
During the hearing, Recorder Reid issued a stern warning to Franklin, emphasizing the seriousness of the charges and the potential consequences he faces.
The judge stated, “You must cooperate with the probation service in the preparation of your pre-sentence report.
I want to know a bit more about you, that’s not to give you any indication of the sentence the court will impose on you.
All sentencing options, including custody, remain open.” Franklin is scheduled to return to court on August 29 for sentencing, where the full extent of his punishment will be determined based on the evidence and reports presented.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts of the justice system to address and prosecute crimes involving minors, especially those involving sexual misconduct and exploitation.
