EDWIN WHEELDON FROM CRAWLEY AND DARLINGTON JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON GIRLS NEAR CHESTER LE STREET

In a recent and disturbing case, Edwin Wheeldon, a man originally from Crawley and with connections to Darlington, has been sentenced to prison for his involvement in multiple sexual assaults on young girls. The incidents took place while Wheeldon was visiting Darlington, a town in the northeast of England, from his residence in Sussex.

According to court records, Wheeldon, aged 53, committed these heinous acts against four girls whose ages ranged from just six to thirteen years old. The court heard that Wheeldon had carried out dozens of assaults, demonstrating a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.

Wheeldon pleaded guilty to a series of serious charges, including six counts of indecent assault, six counts of engaging in acts of indecency with a child, and one count of inciting a child under the age of 13 to participate in sexual activity. Additionally, he admitted to two separate sexual assaults on a child under 13.

The judge overseeing the case expressed grave concern over the impact of Wheeldon’s actions, emphasizing that he had irreparably damaged the lives of the victims. The court highlighted that all the girls involved were particularly vulnerable, making Wheeldon’s crimes even more reprehensible.

As a result of his guilty pleas and the severity of his offenses, Wheeldon was sentenced to five and a half years in prison. Upon release, he will be subject to an extended license period of two years, during which he will be closely monitored. Furthermore, the court mandated that Wheeldon register as a sex offender for life and imposed a lifelong ban on him living with or working around children.

It was also noted that Wheeldon, who was visiting Darlington from Sussex at the time of the offenses, has now relocated to the village of Newfield near Chester le Street, where he currently resides. The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and judicial authorities to protect vulnerable children and hold offenders accountable for their actions.
