GUY ROBSON FROM DARLINGTON JAILED FOR INDECENT IMAGES AND EXTREME PORNOGRAPHY
In a case that has shocked the community of Darlington, businessman Guy Robson has been sentenced to prison after being found in possession of hundreds of indecent images of children and extreme pornography involving animals. The incident came to light during a police raid on his residence in Hartington Way, Darlington, in July of the previous year. Officers arrived at his home to conduct a search and discovered that Robson’s computer was actively downloading illicit images at the time of their visit.Robson, aged 42, was immediately taken into custody, and subsequent investigations revealed a disturbing pattern of activity. Prosecutor Harry Hadfield informed the court that police found not only a large collection of indecent images but also short film clips depicting abuse. The evidence suggested that Robson had been engaged in ongoing online activity related to these illegal materials.
During his arrest, Robson claimed that he was conducting research and intended to report his findings to the authorities. He argued that his actions were part of an investigation aimed at uncovering the origins of the illegal content. However, Judge Peter Bowers dismissed this explanation as implausible, emphasizing that Robson’s claims did not align with the evidence. The judge pointed out that Robson had been involved in this activity for approximately two and a half years, which was inconsistent with the notion of a genuine investigation.
Judge Bowers made it clear that there was no credible evidence to support Robson’s claim of conducting research. Instead, he stated that Robson had deliberately searched for, stored, and shared highly degrading images of children, most of whom were under the age of 13. The judge expressed concern over Robson’s apparent lack of understanding of the harm caused to victims and described his interest as “unnatural and unhealthy,” particularly given the focus on the sexual exploitation of minors.
Robson faced multiple charges, including 16 counts of making indecent images of children, possessing and distributing such images, and possessing extreme pornographic material. The court sentenced him to 30 months in prison. Additionally, Robson was placed on the sex offenders’ register for life, banned from working with children, and subjected to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order that restricted his use of computers and internet-enabled devices.
His defence lawyer, Danielle Graham, acknowledged that Robson accepted he had not been conducting research as he claimed. She highlighted that the sentence would have a significant impact on his business activities and his ability to rebuild his reputation. Graham also mentioned that Robson, who now resides at Dereham Court in Newcastle, had a long-term partner until recently. She noted that the recent death of his brother, a decade ago, had contributed to his mental health struggles, which she described as causing his thoughts to go “very, very far off the mark.”
This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the distribution and possession of illegal and harmful images, and it serves as a stark reminder of the serious consequences faced by those involved in such activities.
