SYED HUSAIN FROM DARLINGTON JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING PATIENTS AT LOCAL CLINIC
In a shocking case that has sent ripples through the medical community in Darlington, Syed Husain, a general practitioner practicing in the town, has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for a series of 23 sexual offences committed against his patients. The offences, which spanned a wide age range from as young as four to as old as 74, were brought to light during a trial held at Leeds Crown Court, where Husain pleaded guilty to all charges. One of the most disturbing aspects of the case involved Husain’s use of a covertly installed camera during examinations. The court heard that Husain had hidden a small camera inside a box of tissues, which he used to secretly film his patients while they were being examined. The camera lens was concealed within the tissue box, allowing him to record intimate moments without the knowledge or consent of his patients. This device was found on the examination table, positioned between the legs of a female patient, which underscored the invasive and predatory nature of his actions.
Prosecutor Jamie Hill detailed how Husain’s illicit activities were uncovered. The investigation was initiated after a 32-year-old woman visited Husain’s surgery complaining of abdominal pain. During her examination, she noticed a tissue box with a hole in it. Upon raising her head to look, she saw a camera lens inside the tissue box, which was positioned on the examination table. This discovery prompted immediate police action. When authorities searched Husain’s residence, they recovered a computer containing more than 1,500 indecent images of children, highlighting a disturbing pattern of behavior and possession of illicit material.
Further searches revealed another computer where police found footage of Husain examining his patients, with some instances showing him engaging in indecent assault. The prosecution argued that these recordings were made secretly, with the images subsequently transferred to Husain’s computer. The evidence painted a clear picture of premeditated and invasive misconduct.
In a letter addressed to the court, Husain expressed remorse, apologizing to his patients and the medical profession. He admitted to being immature both as a doctor and as a person, claiming a lack of sexual experience contributed to his actions. His words reflected a sense of shame and regret for the disgrace he had brought upon himself and his family.
Husain’s defense barrister, Tim Roberts, acknowledged that his client’s medical career was effectively over and emphasized the shame and disgrace Husain had brought to his family through his actions. The judge described the offences as nauseating and outrageous, emphasizing the severity of Husain’s misconduct. As a result, he was placed on the sex offenders’ register for life, ensuring strict monitoring and restrictions moving forward.
