MATHEW SUTCLIFFE SENTENCED IN DUNDEE FOR RAPE AND ABUSE CASES
A man identified as Mathew Sutcliffe has been sentenced to nine years in prison after being found guilty of heinous crimes committed against two women in Dundee. The offenses, which spanned over a three-year period from 2017 to 2020, involved multiple instances of sexual assault and abuse at different addresses within the city.
During the trial at the High Court in Glasgow, it was revealed that Sutcliffe targeted the women while they were sleeping, subjecting them to repeated acts of rape.
The severity of his actions was underscored by the fact that one of the assaults occurred while the victim was awake, adding a disturbing dimension to the case.
The court heard that Sutcliffe’s behavior was not limited to sexual violence; he also engaged in threatening and abusive conduct towards a young girl during the same period, further highlighting the pattern of his misconduct.
Following a conviction on six charges, including the two counts of rape, the judge, Scott Pattison, delivered a stern sentence on Monday.
In addition to the prison term, Sutcliffe, who resides in Dundee, was ordered to undergo supervised release for an additional two years after his release from incarceration.
The judge emphasized the seriousness and persistence of Sutcliffe’s offenses, describing them as “persistent and serious” acts of abuse.
Judge Pattison also issued non-harassment orders to prevent Sutcliffe from making any contact with the victims, warning that any breach of these orders would constitute a separate criminal offense.
Furthermore, Sutcliffe was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to protect the community from further harm.
In his remarks, Judge Pattison highlighted the disturbing nature of the crimes, stating, “You repeatedly raped her by essentially pressuring her, forcing her for the sake of keeping the peace.” The court’s decision reflects the gravity of the offenses and the need for stringent measures to prevent any future harm by Sutcliffe.
