FIFE MAN MARK WELSH SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL OFFENCES AND STALKING IN DUNFERMLINE AND CARNOCK ROAD

In May 2019, a serious case involving a Fife-based businessman, Mark Welsh, culminated in his sentencing after a series of disturbing criminal activities.

Welsh, aged 52 and owner of the Rosegreen cattery business located in Dunfermline, was found guilty of multiple offences related to child sexual assault, indecent practices, and stalking.

The conviction followed a comprehensive five-day trial that revealed a pattern of inappropriate and illegal conduct spanning several years.

During the sentencing hearing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, Welsh was ordered to register as a sex offender and was sentenced to perform 200 hours of unpaid community work.

The court also imposed a 12-month period on the sex offenders’ register.

Welsh’s crimes primarily involved two young girls, with the offences taking place at the Rosegreen premises on Carnock Road.

Additionally, Welsh was convicted of stalking his former wife, Gillian Heathcote, engaging in a sustained campaign of harassment and intimidation.

The court heard that Welsh had engaged in lewd, indecent, and libidinous behaviour towards two girls, one of whom was only 12 years old at the time of the offences.

He was convicted of asking the girls about their sexual experiences, sharing his own, and sending them electronic messages that contained sexual content.

Welsh also made threatening statements, telling one girl that he would kill himself if she did not say she loved him.

Specifically, Welsh was found guilty of abusing two girls over a period of several years.

Between October 15, 2008, and October 14, 2010, at his home, he engaged in lewd acts towards a girl aged between 14 and 15.

These acts included asking her about her sexual experiences, disclosing his own, staring at her, touching her on the thigh, pulling her from a horse onto the ground, and attempting to kiss her on the face and neck.

He also touched her face and made her feel uncomfortable with his behaviour.

Furthermore, between June 26 and November 30, 2010, Welsh committed similar offences against another girl aged 12.

He forced her to lie with him on the sofa, lie behind her, and cuddle her, while also kissing her on the neck and pushing her on the body.

Despite her protests, Welsh continued his inappropriate conduct, which included touching her chest and body, and not stopping when asked to cease.

He also expressed love for her, asked about her sexual experiences, and sent her electronic messages.

Between December 1, 2010, and June 25, 2011, Welsh continued to sexually assault the same girl, repeating many of the previous acts.

He again forced her into lying on the sofa, cuddling, and touching her inappropriately, while also sending her messages expressing love and asking about her sexual experiences.

In addition to his offences against minors, Welsh was convicted of stalking and harassing his then-wife, Gillian Heathcote.

The court found that between September 15, 2013, and October 1, 2015, Welsh engaged in a course of conduct that caused her fear and alarm.

His actions included accessing her private social media accounts, repeatedly sending electronic messages, visiting her workplace with gifts, tracking her movements via a mobile phone app, following her, and sending emails and letters to her and to veterinary authorities.

Welsh also recorded her on video without her consent.

Sheriff Craig McSherry expressed concern over Welsh’s questioning of the legal process, suggesting he appeared to challenge the law regarding corroboration following his trial.

The court’s sentence reflected the severity of his actions, emphasizing the need for accountability and protection for victims.

Welsh’s case highlights the ongoing issues of child abuse and harassment, and the importance of justice for those affected.
