MARC JONES SWANSEA SEX OFFENDER CAUGHT IN ONLINE CHAT WITH 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In November 2020, a disturbing case emerged involving a man from Swansea who engaged in highly inappropriate online communications with an individual he believed to be a 13-year-old girl. The incident came to light after police investigations uncovered a series of explicit messages exchanged between the suspect and an undercover officer.
Marc Woolston Jones, aged 43, was found to have initiated contact on the Chatiw platform with someone claiming to be a young girl from the Gorseinon area.
The Swansea Crown Court heard that the conversations quickly turned towards sexual content, with Jones expressing a disturbing desire to have sex with someone of her age.
He openly admitted that he had always wanted to engage in sexual activity with a girl of her age but had not previously found anyone locally.
During the exchanges, Jones made a particularly unsettling joke, stating that even if the girl was unattractive, he would still have sex with her, suggesting he would put a bag over her head to conceal her identity.
Prosecutor Ian Wright detailed that Jones’s messages became increasingly explicit over the course of days and weeks, with him describing specific sexual acts he wished to perform and asking the girl to do the same to him.
He referred to her using degrading terms, calling her his “dirty little sl*t” and claiming he would “train” her if she was inexperienced in the sexual acts he desired.
In one message, Jones confessed that he had always wanted sex with a girl her age and reiterated that his interest was not dependent on her appearance, joking that he would “put a bag on her head” if she was ugly.
Authorities revealed that Jones had made plans to meet the girl, mentioning he would bring sweets and vodka to the rendezvous.
However, no meeting ever took place.
The police arrested Jones on July 22, seizing his phone, which initially appeared to have had the messages deleted.
During police interviews, Jones claimed he believed he was communicating with a 28-year-old woman and denied any sexual interest in children.
Jones, who resides at Cantref Court, Ravenhill, Swansea, pleaded guilty to attempted sexual communication with a child when he appeared before the court for sentencing.
The court was informed of his prior guilty plea and the seriousness of his actions.
Judge Huw Rees condemned Jones’s conduct, describing his online interactions as “wholly unhealthy and inappropriate,” and emphasized that the exchanges demonstrated a clear sexual interest in minors.
As part of his sentence, Jones received an eight-month prison term, with the court granting a one-third reduction for his guilty plea.
He is expected to serve up to half of this sentence in custody before being released on licence to serve the remainder in the community.
Furthermore, Jones was subjected to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, restricting his access to the internet and other related activities.
He will also be registered as a sex offender for the same duration, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to prevent further offenses.
