LUKE MACKIE'S REIGN OF TERROR IN DUNDEE: DOMESTIC ABUSER AND VIOLENT OFFENDER SENTENCED
In a case that has shocked the community of Dundee, Luke Mackie, a 21-year-old man with a disturbing history of violence and coercion, has been sentenced to over three years in prison for his relentless abuse and threatening behavior. The court heard how Mackie subjected his former partner, Nicole Connor, 23, to nearly a year of terrifying physical assaults and controlling tactics that left her feeling trapped and fearful.
According to court records, Mackie’s abusive conduct included choking Nicole during violent outbursts, forcibly removing her phone and car keys to prevent her from seeking help, and refusing to allow her to use the bathroom alone.
His violent episodes often culminated in him hurling her to the floor, displaying a pattern of aggressive and unpredictable behavior.
Nicole, who is an NHS nurse, eventually found the courage to end the relationship, but Mackie’s obsession did not cease.
He followed her to her workplace and her home, persistently harassing her through relentless phone calls and abusive text messages, further intensifying her ordeal.
In October, Mackie pleaded guilty at Dundee Sheriff Court to 12 charges, including the coercive control of Nicole Connor between October 1, 2020, and July 31, 2021.
His criminal record also includes four charges related to a subsequent relationship, along with two assaults on police officers, threats of violence, and possession of cocaine.
The court described his behavior as “truly harrowing,” and Sheriff Gregor Murray sentenced him to 40 months in prison.
Upon release, Mackie will be under supervision for a year and is prohibited from approaching or contacting Nicole or his other victim for a period of three years.
Nicole recounted how her relationship with Mackie began in October 2020 but quickly turned violent within just a few weeks.
She described how Mackie could switch from being calm to aggressive in an instant, often continuing his violent outbursts as if nothing had happened.
She recounted a particularly harrowing incident where he throttled her in the kitchen before casually taking a shower, as if the assault was insignificant.
After their relationship ended, Mackie continued to harass Nicole for two months, even warning her that police might become involved, saying, “Better hope when I get in touch with the police it’s not your name that they’re speaking about – not be a good day.” His violent tendencies extended beyond his first relationship.
Mackie later engaged in a new campaign of terror against another woman he met.
In January 2022, at a taxi rank in Dundee, he physically assaulted her, striking her on the head and body.
His violence escalated further when he attacked two police officers who attempted to restrain him.
The following month, at a Premier Inn hotel in Edinburgh, Mackie’s aggression reached new heights.
He brandished a boiled kettle at his partner, pointed a glass bottle at her neck, and forcibly threw her onto a bed.
He then spat in her face and refused to let her leave.
During a taxi ride to Waverley station, he continued his assault, calling her derogatory names, throwing her phone onto a tramline, and warning her not to board a train.
The violence culminated in him striking her in the face and kicking over her suitcase.
At Dundee Sheriff Court on December 14, Mackie was sentenced for his latest offenses, with the sentence backdated to his remand date of February 28.
He showed no remorse during the proceedings, even winking at his parents as he was led out of the dock.
The court’s decision underscores the severity of his actions and the ongoing threat he poses to his victims and the community of Dundee.
