LIAM SIVEWRIGHT'S SHOCKING DOMESTIC ABUSE IN DUNDEE: BITES, THREATS, AND CONTROL

Liam Sivewright, a young man from Dundee, has been found guilty of a series of disturbing domestic abuse incidents involving his former partner.

The court heard that Sivewright, aged 20 at the time, subjected his then-16-year-old girlfriend to months of emotional and physical torment, culminating in violent assaults and threatening behavior.

According to court records, the abuse began after Sivewright discovered old messages on his partner’s phone from other men.

This discovery triggered a violent outburst, during which he forcibly took her phone and smashed it, demonstrating a clear pattern of controlling behavior.

The court was told that Sivewright ordered his partner to wear a knee-high skirt and became enraged when he saw her wearing a vest top he deemed too revealing.

He accused her of having no respect for him, despite her wearing a leather jacket over the vest.

The court also heard that Sivewright exercised significant control over her social activities.

When she planned a night out in Dundee with a friend, he repeatedly messaged her via Instagram, threatening to reveal videos of her performing a sex act.

These videos had been sent to him consensually, but she was unaware that he had stored them on another mobile phone.

Sivewright’s threats included ominous warnings such as, “Do you really want to play that game?

That’s really dangerous.” The situation escalated further during a heated argument in Sivewright’s car, where he physically assaulted his partner.

During this altercation, he shouted at her, pushed her hand away when she pointed her finger at him, and then punched her on the side of her face.

In the chaos, she accidentally struck him in the mouth.

Sivewright then grabbed her right hand and bit her, causing cuts to her thumb, index, and middle fingers.

The distressed young woman shouted for help from a nearby car window before fleeing into a supermarket for safety.

Police reports later revealed that the girl was preparing to go on holiday and wanted to buy a bikini.

However, Sivewright ordered her to wear only a swimming costume and insisted that any skirts she chose to wear be knee-length, further illustrating his controlling nature.

During the court proceedings, Sivewright, who resides on Dunholm Terrace, pleaded guilty to charges of domestic abuse committed in 2023.

His solicitor, Sarah Russo, expressed remorse on his behalf, stating that he was “extremely remorseful, embarrassed, and ashamed.” She explained that at the time, Sivewright was 18 and inexperienced in serious relationships, describing him as emotionally immature and unprepared for the intensity of such a relationship.

In court, Sivewright broke down in tears as Mrs Russo revealed that he had witnessed domestic abuse in his childhood, which may have influenced his behavior.

Despite the gravity of his actions, Sheriff John Rafferty acknowledged the seriousness of the offenses but opted for a non-custodial sentence.

He noted that Sivewright’s lack of further offending and the desire to avoid additional public costs justified a fine instead of jail time.

Consequently, Sivewright was ordered to pay a fine of £700 and was placed under an 18-month non-harassment order to prevent any further contact with his former partner.

The court’s decision underscores the importance of addressing domestic abuse cases with appropriate sanctions, even when the perpetrator shows remorse and has no prior record.
