‘ IMMATURE’ MAN FINED AFTER HE BIT AND STRUCK HIS TERRIFIED TEENAGE EX
A man from Dundee who physically abused his ex-partner by biting and punching her, and who also threatened to disclose private videos, has been issued a fine in court.Liam Seivwright instructed the girl to wear a skirt that reached her knees and became furious when he discovered old messages on her phone from other men.
During one incident, the frightened teenager called for assistance through a car window before going into a supermarket to seek safety.
Seivwright, aged 20, admitted to subjecting his then 16-year-old partner to several months of domestic abuse.
Dundee Sheriff Court was told that he took her phone and smashed it after seeing messages received prior to their relationship.
A few months later, he assaulted her by hitting and biting her during an argument.
Procurement of the court detailed how Seivwright exerted control over the girl when she planned a night out in Dundee.
“The accused disapproved of her choice to wear a vest top he considered too revealing,” explained prosecutor Sam Craib.
“He expressed his displeasure.
“The girl told him to stop being so ridiculous.
“She was wearing a leather jacket over the vest at the time.” While she was out with a friend, Seivwright repeatedly contacted her via Instagram, claiming to have videos of her engaging in a sexual act.
He warned her, saying: “Do you really want to play that game?
That’s really dangerous.” The videos had been sent by the girl voluntarily, but she was unaware he had stored them on another device.
After ending the relationship, she got into a heated argument with Seivwright inside his car while he was driving.
Mr Craib described how “the accused yelled at her and when she pointed her finger at him, telling him not to shout, he pushed her hand away and then punched her in the face.” She accidentally hit him in the mouth during the altercation, after which he grabbed her right hand and bit her.
She sustained cuts on her thumb and fingers and shouted for help before fleeing into a nearby store.
Later, she told police that the couple planned a holiday, and she wanted to buy a bikini.
Seivwright ordered her to wear only a swimsuit and insisted any skirts she wore be knee-length.
Hailing from Dunholm Terrace, Seivwright admitted to engaging in domestic abuse in 2023.
His solicitor, Sarah Russo, stated that he was remorseful and embarrassed.
The defense highlighted that he was 18 at the time, in his first serious relationship, and that he was emotionally immature.
Seivwright, who works as an apprentice roofer, became tearful as she described his childhood experiences witnessing domestic violence.
Sheriff John Rafferty acknowledged the seriousness of the matter, citing his immaturity but emphasizing that Seivwright's repeated illegal actions warranted a custodial sentence.
However, due to the lack of recent offending and to avoid additional public costs, the sheriff chose to fine him £700 and impose an 18-month non-harassment order.
