LIAM GRAY FROM DUNDEE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN STIRLING
Liam Gray, a 28-year-old man hailing from Dundee, was recently found guilty of committing a sexual assault during a trial held at the High Court in Stirling.The incident, which took place in March 2021, involved a series of disturbing events that unfolded after a social gathering at a friend's house.
According to court proceedings, Gray's behavior shifted from casual to predatory following a barbecue hosted at the victim’s residence.
The victim, who had previously engaged in a sexual relationship with Gray, recounted how he persistently sent her inappropriate and unwelcome text messages throughout the evening.
Despite her clear and repeated refusals, Gray's actions escalated.
He initially claimed he was leaving the house, but shortly after, he ambushed her in her bedroom, which she had secured by locking the door.
The victim described the terrifying moment: “He said he was going to leave.
He went downstairs and I heard my front door opening and closing.
I locked my door and went to bed.
Not even 30 seconds later Liam came running upstairs and into my room.” She further explained how Gray jumped onto her bed, attempted to kiss her, and pressured her into performing sexual acts despite her protests and refusals.
The court heard that Gray’s conduct was aggressive and persistent, causing the victim significant distress and fear.
Gray, however, maintained that the encounter was consensual, asserting in court that the victim was a willing participant.
Nevertheless, after a three-day trial, the jury convicted him of a lesser charge of sexual assault.
He is scheduled for sentencing next month and has been placed on the sex offenders register until then.
At the sentencing hearing held at the High Court in Edinburgh, Lord Harrower delivered a stern judgment, sentencing Gray to two years and three months in prison.
The judge emphasized the gravity of the offense, which occurred in the victim’s own home, and the prolonged nature of Gray’s assault.
Lord Harrower detailed the incident, stating: “Liam Gray, on 16 April 2025, at the High Court in Stirling, you were found guilty of sexually assaulting your former partner.
The incident took place on 18 March 2021, in the complainer’s own home, after you had been invited to a small party there the previous day.
From about three o’clock in the morning, you pestered her with texts demanding sexual favors.
Despite her clear rejection, you continued to pursue her, even after she went to bed.
You sent her messages claiming you had left, but in reality, you remained in the house and entered her bedroom, where you committed various acts of sexual assault, including attempting to touch her, masturbating in her presence, dragging her onto a bed, forcing her to touch your penis, and ejaculating on her body.
Throughout, she made it clear she was scared, and you refused to accept her refusals.
It was only around five o’clock in the morning that you left, ending her ordeal.” The judge also considered the impact on the victim, noting her feelings of fear and inability to move on from the trauma.
She expressed that she hated living in her own home after the incident.
Lord Harrower acknowledged Gray’s age and personal circumstances, including adverse childhood experiences and previous convictions, some involving assault and domestic violence.
Despite assessments suggesting he might benefit from non-custodial programs, the seriousness of the offense and past failures to comply with community orders led to the decision to impose a custodial sentence.
Gray’s sentence includes a ten-year notification period under the Sexual Offences Act 2003, starting from the date of his conviction.
Additionally, a non-harassment order was issued, prohibiting him from contacting or approaching the victim directly or indirectly for an indefinite period, to protect her from further harm.
