DUNDEE CHEF GUILTY OF DOMESTIC ASSAULT
A well-known Dundee chef has been convicted of assaulting his wife and causing her to fall down a staircase. The incident happened at their family residence on Colonsay Gardens, Inchture, following a heated argument fueled by alcohol on March 10.
Police responded after Sinead, his wife, called emergency services, arriving at the scene to find her injured and bruised at the bottom of the stairs.
She reported that after drinking, she followed her husband upstairs, where the argument escalated on the landing, involving shouting and a shove, which caused her to fall.
She confirmed the bruise on her elbow was from that fall.
During police questioning, Lewis Donegan, the defendant, admitted to pushing his wife and causing her to fall.
The court was told that the couple has since reconciled and continues to live together.
Donegan, who is 34 years old, was cleared of an earlier assault charge.
The sheriff delayed sentencing for six months to allow him the possibility to stay out of further trouble.
It is also noted that Donegan is the founder of the Dundee Cooking Academy and previously appeared on MasterChef: The Professionals.
The sheriff commented that although unintended, the act constituted a physical assault, influenced by her intoxication, and that she may have lost her footing.
Donegan received a deferred sentence contingent on his ability to avoid further trouble.
