DUNDEE SEX OFFENDER LAURENCE MCMILLAN ADMITTED TO INAPPROPRIATE CHAT WITH CHILD
In April 2017, a disturbing case unfolded at Dundee Sheriff Court involving Laurence McMillan, a 40-year-old resident of St Nicholas Place in Dundee.McMillan faced serious allegations related to his inappropriate communication with a minor, which he himself acknowledged in court.
The incident took place on December 19 of the previous year, and the details reveal a troubling pattern of behavior that prompted police intervention and legal proceedings.
According to court reports, McMillan engaged in a series of text message exchanges with a child, during which he crossed boundaries by discussing sexual topics and making suggestive remarks.
The communication began early in the morning at around 5 am with casual small talk, but later in the day, between approximately 4:30 pm and 8:30 pm, the tone of the messages shifted dramatically.
McMillan's messages became increasingly inappropriate, as he asked the child whether they were in bed and inquired about their sexual interests, clearly attempting to establish a secretive and illicit connection.
During the exchange, McMillan explicitly told the child, “Don’t tell anyone I’m talking to you,” which heightened the concern for the child's safety and well-being.
When the child questioned the reason for secrecy, McMillan responded with the chilling admission, “Because I’m a dirty old man.” He further instructed the child to “remember to keep our secret,” and added, “I will keep my thoughts to myself,” attempting to reinforce the secrecy of their communication.
The child, feeling increasingly uncomfortable with the conversation, confided in their mother, who then took immediate action by contacting the police.
The authorities investigated the matter thoroughly, leading to McMillan’s arrest and subsequent court appearance.
During the proceedings, he admitted to engaging in sexualized and inappropriate chat with the child at a property in Dundee on the specified date.
As the case was adjourned, the court deferred sentencing until April 28.
In addition to the legal proceedings, McMillan was placed on the sex offenders register, reflecting the serious nature of his actions and the ongoing concern for community safety.
