KEVIN SPOKES FROM DUNDEE SENTENCED FOR VIOLENT OUTBURST AT FUNERAL IN DUNDEE

Kevin Spokes, aged 36 and a resident of Dundee, was sentenced to six months in prison following a disturbing incident that took place during a funeral service in Dundee.

The funeral was held to honor Kimberley Cowie's father, a somber occasion that was marred by Spokes' disruptive behavior.

Witnesses reported that Spokes, who had consumed a significant amount of alcohol, became heavily intoxicated during the service, which led to him smashing several valuable heirloom vases that were part of the family’s cherished possessions.

Kimberley Cowie, visibly upset and concerned about his conduct, approached Spokes to confront him about his disruptive actions.

Instead of calming down, Spokes responded violently.

He allegedly dragged Kimberley by her shoulders in a forceful manner and then proceeded to throw a chair.

The chair struck Kimberley and also hit another female guest, causing distress and chaos among those present.

The Sheriff's Court heard that Spokes had a prior history of domestic offending, which added gravity to the court’s assessment of his actions.

Sheriff Gregor Murray described the incident as 'an appalling offence,' emphasizing the seriousness of Spokes' behavior.

Spokes admitted to the assault during the court proceedings and was subsequently sentenced to six months in jail.

Additionally, he was issued a two-year non-harassment order, prohibiting him from contacting Kimberley Cowie or the other female guest involved.

Following the incident, Spokes attempted to make a hasty escape by riding away on a bicycle.

However, he lost control and fell, sustaining injuries that necessitated hospitalization.

The court was informed that the scene was chaotic, with a fiscal depute highlighting the distress caused to everyone attending the funeral.

The depute pointed out that Spokes' actions had cast a shadow over what was meant to be a solemn and respectful occasion, largely due to his excessive alcohol consumption which contributed significantly to the disorderly conduct.
