KEVIN LOBBAN JAILLED AFTER DUNDEE PETROL STATION CRASH AND DOMESTIC ABUSE REVELATIONS

Kevin Lobban, a martial arts champion known for his involvement in mixed martial arts (MMA), has been sentenced to prison following a reckless and dangerous incident at a petrol station in Dundee.

The incident, which occurred on the evening of October 18, 2021, involved Lobban deliberately driving a van into the forecourt pumps, narrowly avoiding injury to a petrol station attendant, and causing significant property damage.

According to court proceedings, Lobban arrived at the Jet petrol station in Dundee at approximately 9:30 pm.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang as Lobban’s van collided with pumps one and two.

It was revealed that Lobban, who does not possess a valid driving license, was behind the wheel during the incident.

A passenger in the vehicle attempted to remove metal cladding from the damaged pump, which had become lodged on the van.

As Lobban drove away from the scene, he nearly struck an employee who had come to investigate the noise and assess the damage.

The station staff promptly contacted the police after noting Lobban’s vehicle registration details.

Law enforcement officers located the vehicle, registered to LRK Scaffolding, and recovered Lobban’s passport within twenty minutes of the incident.

Following the petrol station crash, the court heard that Lobban, who was heavily intoxicated, appeared at his former partner’s residence around 10 pm.

He lay outside the property before entering the house, causing the woman inside to activate a police alarm out of fear.

Shortly before 10:30 pm, police officers spotted Lobban walking along Claverhouse Road.

Upon arrest, Lobban caused a disturbance inside the police van, refusing to acknowledge any involvement in the petrol station incident.

He initially denied knowledge of the crash, then failed a breath test and was asked to provide additional samples.

During the process, Lobban became aggressive, telling officers to “f*** off,” challenging them to fight, and had to be restrained with handcuffs and leg restraints.

In addition to the dangerous driving charges, Lobban pleaded guilty to a series of domestic abuse offences against his former partner.

The court was informed that between June 2020 and September 2022, Lobban engaged in a campaign of abusive behaviour, which included shouting, swearing, threats, demeaning her, and spitting at her.

The prosecution highlighted that Lobban has a total of nine previous convictions related to domestic abuse, including assault.

Despite having completed two courses aimed at addressing his offending, the court noted that his behaviour persisted.

Sheriff Alastair Carmichael, during sentencing, emphasized the seriousness of Lobban’s actions.

He stated, “You pled guilty to charges which included abusive behaviour against an ex-partner over 15 months.

You shouted, swore, threatened and demeaned her and you spat at her.

You have nine domestic abuse convictions including assault.

You’ve been on two courses intended to tackle your offending.

They have not.” The sheriff concluded that due to the nature and history of Lobban’s convictions, custody was unavoidable.

Jim Laverty, Lobban’s defence solicitor, acknowledged his client’s limited insight into his abusive behaviour, stating, “Because of the interview with social work we know he has limited insight into his abusive behaviour and how it affects his former partners.” The incident has had significant repercussions for the petrol station owner, Sebastian Nonis, aged 57.

He described the damage caused by Lobban’s crash as the worst he had seen in 25 years of operating the station.

The recently installed pump, which cost a five-figure sum, had to be replaced, and Nonis remarked, “This is the biggest, most dangerous incident here.” It was also revealed that Lobban has a history of similar offences, and his actions at the Dundee petrol station have caused considerable concern within the local community and among business owners.

His latest sentencing reflects the ongoing issues related to his behaviour and the serious consequences of his reckless actions.
