A 29-year-old woman named Katie Anderson has confessed to physically assaulting and injuring a young boy aged five, whom she was entrusted to care for in Dundee.The incident took place on January 20 of this year, and Anderson’s actions have raised serious concerns about child safety and caregiver conduct in the city.
According to court proceedings, Anderson was responsible for supervising the boy and his four-year-old sister at the time of the incident.
The court heard that Anderson, who was pregnant during the event, was attempting to keep the children quiet amidst their fighting.
In a moment of frustration, she got out of bed and struck the boy, an act that resulted in him being knocked off his feet.
The force of the blow was significant enough that Anderson believed she had broken his nose.
Prosecutor Charmaine Gilmartin, representing the Crown, detailed that Anderson’s assault caused the boy to fall to the ground, leading to bleeding from his nose.
Despite the severity of her actions, Anderson immediately expressed remorse.
She provided aid to the injured child, embraced him, and offered apologies for her conduct.
The court was also informed that Anderson told the boy’s father, “I think I broke his nose.
I slapped him and it was bleeding – that’s why it was broken.” The injuries sustained by the boy included a black eye and swelling, indicating the physical impact of the assault.
The incident has been legally classified as assault causing injury, and Anderson has accepted responsibility for her actions.
In her court appearance, Anderson, who resides in Dundee, admitted to the charges.
