KARINE SLOAN FROM DUNDEE PLEADS GUILTY TO REVENGE PORN AND HARASSMENT CASE
Management Accountant Karine Sloan from Dundee has admitted guilt to charges under Section 2(1) of the Abusive Behaviour and Sexual Harm (Scotland) Act 2016, specifically related to revenge porn. Her conviction stems from a deliberate campaign of digital harassment and abuse directed at her ex-partner's new companion.
The incident that led to her arrest involved Sloan sending multiple intimate photographs and provocative messages to her ex's current partner, causing significant distress.
Initially, Sloan faced charges under Section 6 of the Sexual Offences Act, but after a prolonged period awaiting trial, she opted to accept a plea deal.
She pleaded guilty to the offence under the Abusive Behaviour and Sexual Harm Act, acknowledging her actions in court.
During the sentencing hearing, Sloan was not given a custodial sentence but received a conditional discharge.
The judge considered several factors, including the considerable delay between the commission of the offence and the sentencing, Sloan's previously clean criminal record, and her positive standing within the Dundee community.
The victim, who has chosen to remain anonymous, spoke about the profound emotional and psychological toll Sloan's actions have taken.
She described how the harassment severely affected her mental health and strained her familial relationships, highlighting the lasting impact of such abuse.
