JOSEPH HAMILTON'S SHOCKING CRIME IN DUNDEE: VICTIM REVEALS HARROWING DETAILS OF RAPE AND ABUSE
In a distressing case that has sent shockwaves through the city of Dundee, Joseph Hamilton, a 27-year-old chef, was found guilty of raping a woman at his residence in Balmullo Square.The incident, which took place on December 8 of the previous year, has brought to light the disturbing nature of the assault and the emotional trauma inflicted upon the victim.
The woman, who appeared in the High Court in Edinburgh to give her testimony, recounted her experience with a sense of distress and disbelief.
She initially went to Hamilton's flat expecting nothing more than a casual visit, intending to share a simple cup of tea and engage in light conversation.
However, her visit took a dark turn.
She described how she was served coffee, but as she prepared to leave, Hamilton suddenly grabbed her by the arm and assaulted her violently.
During her testimony, she emphasized that there had been no prior flirtation or suggestive messages exchanged between them.
She clarified that her visit was innocent and that she did not anticipate the violent attack that followed.
The woman detailed how Hamilton indecently assaulted her before proceeding to rape her.
She explained to the court that Hamilton started having intercourse with her without her consent, despite her efforts to push him away.
She described her struggle, noting that Hamilton was significantly larger than she was, which made resisting difficult.
When questioned by advocate depute Adrian Cottam about her words to Hamilton during the assault, she stated that she was pleading with him to stop.
Her account painted a harrowing picture of helplessness and fear.
After the assault, she described feeling numb and in shock, overwhelmed by the trauma she had just endured.
Joseph Hamilton denied the charges of rape, asserting that the encounter was consensual.
However, the court found him guilty of the offence.
He was also accused of three additional sex attack charges involving another woman at a different address in Dundee during June and July of the previous year.
These charges were not proven, and Hamilton was acquitted of them.
Following the verdict, the judge, Lord Glennie, deferred sentencing to allow for the preparation of a background report.
Hamilton was subsequently placed on the sex offenders register, marking a significant development in the case and highlighting the severity of his conviction.
