JORDAN CAMERON SENTENCED IN DUNDEE FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE IN EDINBURGH
Jordan Cameron, a 23-year-old man from Dundee, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison after being found guilty of attempting to rape a 16-year-old girl. The incident occurred on June 29, 2019, when Cameron, who had been out drinking in Dundee, approached the young girl, believing she was asleep.
The court heard that Cameron's actions were opportunistic, taking advantage of what he perceived as her vulnerability.
During the trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, the prosecution detailed how Cameron, then 19 years old, engaged in a disturbing assault on the girl, who was pretending to be asleep at the time.
Cameron was initially charged with both assault and rape, but he denied the allegations.
Despite his denial, the jury convicted him of attempted rape after a trial that examined the evidence thoroughly.
Judge Lord Young, presiding over the case, addressed Cameron directly during the sentencing.
He emphasized that the court considered sentencing guidelines relevant to young offenders, recognizing Cameron's age at the time of the offense.
The judge described the crime as opportunistic and noted the seriousness of the attempted assault.
Throughout the proceedings, Cameron watched the sentencing via a television link from prison.
The court also ordered that he be placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely, reflecting the gravity of his actions and the potential risk he poses to the community.
Cameron, formerly residing on Fairbairn Street in Dundee, now faces the consequences of his actions as he begins his sentence.
